Water is very important to people here. This is the desert with little rain, and it was not too many years ago that water was scarce. Thus, when we first arrived, we had a little education in understanding about water. People told us that we would know it is getting to be summer, when we can reverse out hot and cold water.
We thought this sounded a bit bizarre, but now we are coming into a full understanding. Hopefully, the pics will help to illustrate. Every house/apartment building has one or many water tanks on top. Every week or so a water truck arrives to fill them. Every room with running water has a mounted hot water tank. In the winter, water is just like we have always know it: you turn on hot, and you get just that, and cold is the same way. Well, the summer is a different story. You turn off your hot water tanks to get the cold water that has come to sit in the tank. The hot water comes directly from the roof. For the past couple of weeks, we have been showering from roof water. It is an interesting thing to consider. All-in-all, we are happy to have both, no matter from what faucet each flows.
